Configuring your Data Lab page
Learn how to configure signal settings in the Data Lab Configuration page, including units for Continuous and Count signals, status labels, and how units affect multi-select on the dashboard.
Data Lab – Configuration Page
The Configuration page lets you manage the settings for the signals connected to your Data Lab. Each signal is linked to a signal from an IO module (either built into a device or as a stand-alone module) and is assigned one of three data types: Continuous (or analog signal), Count, or Status.
What can you configure?
Most fields on the Configuration page are set during provisioning of the device and cannot be changed in the web app. To modify these fields, local configuration at the device is required.
The fields you can edit depend on the data type:

Most fields on the Configuration page are set during provisioning of the device and cannot be changed in the web app. To modify these fields, local configuration at the device is required.
The fields you can edit depend on the data type:
- Continuous and Count: You can configure the Unit.
- Status: You can configure custom labels for the two status values "1" and "0" (for example: On/Off, Active/Inactive, or Open/Closed).
How the Unit affects multi-select on the dashboard
The unit you assign to Continuous and Count signals directly affects how you can combine signals on the Data Lab dashboard. You can only multi-select signals that share the same unit. This prevents the need for multiple Y-axes on a single chart.
If you want to compare signals side by side on the dashboard, make sure they have the same unit configured.
Status signals do not have a unit. Because of this, the multi-select restriction does not apply — you can freely combine multiple Status signals on the dashboard regardless of their definitions.
Good to know
- To reconfigure the read-only values in the configuration page, you have to perform two steps:
- First, reconfigure those values locally in your device.
- Secondly they will have to re-provision their device to the platform. If you don't re-provision, there will be a disparity between what is shown locally and what is in the web-app.
- If you need support how to do this, please reach out to your local ABB sales representative
- Metrics and status labels are purely visual labels — they do not affect the underlying data.
